In 2000, Spencer’s architectural firm was retained to design an accessibility addition to the church. After
discovering several of his friends and acquaintances were members of the parish, he started attending services regularly. Since that time, he has been quite active in the life of the parish, serving for five
years as People’s Warden and, more recently, on the Parish Property Committee. He has been a Sidesman,
Reader and most recently as a Communion Assistant with the Sacristans Group.
His architectural firm specializes in the conservation of historic buildings, having worked on numerous
significant projects, including the Library of Parliament and Peace Tower restorations in Ottawa, where he was the lead conservation architect, and extensive repair work on the Manitoba and Saskachewan
Legislative Buildings. More locally, he led the Hockey Hall of Fame and heritage facade restoration
work at Brookfield Place downtown and numerous church restoration projects, including the Church of
the Holy Trinity, Grace Church on-the-Hill, and St Anne’s Church, recently lost to a terrible fire.
In the summer months, Spencer enjoys pottering about on his sailboat and occasionally skipping church
on long weekends
