St. James Town Community Arts

Since its founding in 2007, Reaching Out through Music has provided music and arts education to hundreds of children from the St. James Town community. Programs include The St. James Town Children’s Choir, drama, guitar, ukulele, piano, singing and violin lessons.

Feedback from children and parents attests to Reaching Out Through Music’s lasting impact in building confidence, strong work habits, and strengthening the social and cultural fabric of St. James Town. Reaching Out Through Music also provides students with opportunities to experience the world beyond their immediate environment, through collaborative performances with organizations that include the Canadian Opera Company’s Opera For Young Audiences, thereby broadening their vision to new possibilities. Several of our students have used these opportunities to excel in the wider music community outside St James Town, and in post-secondary education such as at Ryerson University.

The Church of St. Peter & St. Simon has generously provided free rehearsal space to several of our programs for well over a decade. Currently, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all programs have shifted to online delivery. We look forward to returning to in-person lessons when permissible.

Reaching Out Through Music is about to have a brand new look and feel!  Stay tuned as we unveil ourselves as St. James Town Community Arts in the coming weeks.
